New Science Ventures (NSV) takes its name quite literally: we invest in companies with new technologies that push the frontiers of science and produce order of magnitude improvements in price and performance. Since inception, our firm has invested over $100 million in over 20 companies.
NSV focuses on two broad sectors: Life Sciences (60%) – Pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical devices; and Information Technology (40%) - semiconductors, photonics, advanced materials and systems.
NSV is a value added investor with particular expertise in strategy, operations and finance. Our principals are on the Board of Directors (or an observer) in 90% of our investments. We have extensive personal networks which are a resource for us and our portfolio companies.
NSV often is the lead investor but also co-invests with other capable investors. We are frequently invited into transactions by other venture capital firms who value our contribution.
NSV invests in companies in all stages of development - from founding to pre – IPO - and has often been the first institutional investor. We seek an overall balance of 60% late stage and 40% early stage investments. Our typical investment is $2 - 8 million in rounds one to three.
NSV approaches investing globally and currently has investments in China, India, Thailand and the United Kingdom as well as the United States. We recognize that the value chain of a company may often be optimized globally, regardless of legal or physical domicile, and we encourage our portfolio companies to take this approach. |
